Dr. Kim Watson- McKenzie, DVM

Kim Watson-McKenzie had a rural upbringing and animals have always been an important part of her life. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1994, started her position in Listowel in January 2005 and became a co-owner in 2008. Kim has extensive experience in both Medicine and Surgery. Kim and her husband Rob enjoy spending time with their three children Melynda, Brayden and Turner and continue to be the kids biggest fans no matter what sport they are participating in. They also appreciate visits with family 'back at the farm', daily walks and any opportunity to ride their motorcycles. They have an energetic yellow lab named Nala and a playful cat named Ike.

Dr. Mary Walker, DVM

Mary Walker graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2011 and is happy to be splitting her time between Heartland Animal Hospital of Listowel and Drayton.  Mary grew up in the city of Brampton and is enjoying the more rural lifestyle that Listowel offers.  Mary has an interest in pain management in her surgical and medical cases.  This past spring, she participated in a comprehensive course on abdominal ultrasound and just completed a similar course for horses.  In her free time, Mary loves to travel, read, and relax with friends and family at her family cottage. She lives in Listowel with her loveable but mischievous dog Wiley “The Coyote”.  He is rescue from a Northern Ontario native reserve and is a constant source of entertainment (and trouble) in his efforts to be an indoor dog!

 

 

 

  Small Animal Associate Veterinarians

Dr. Colleen Bryan, DVM

Colleen graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2014. Shortly thereafter, she joined Heartland covering a maternity leave and has been with us ever since.

Colleen grew up in London, Ontario and has always had an interest in working with animals, big and small. Her interests include feline medicine and pain management. She also has a growing interest in dentistry and has completed additional training on the latest techniques.  When not at the clinic, Colleen can be found horseback riding, reading, or camping. Colleen, her husband James, and their children live on a farm with their horses; Ace and Beaker, and cats; Lyla, Cheeto & Marm. 

Dr. Emma Webster, DVM

Emma Webster spent her veterinary externship with us in 2008 and so we knew we were very fortunate to have her join our team when she graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2009. In addition to an admirable level of general veterinary knowledge, she has taken a comprehensive course in ultrasound and dentistry and has a special interest in Ophthalmology.  Outside of the clinic, Emma enjoys horseback riding, painting and spending time with her family on their hobby farm in Drayton. Emma shares the farm chores with her husband Rob, three children (Miles, Sidney and Samantha), their dog Kajun, their cat Spencer and about 20 chickens.

 

Dr. Lisa Bryam, DVM

Lisa Byram has always had a passion for animals of all sizes. Prior to becoming a vet she enjoyed various summer jobs involving horses, cattle and even zoo animals. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 and started her position in Listowel in February 2002. She is particularly interested in Internal Medicine and recently completed a comprehensive course in ultrasound. She lives in Listowel with her husband Rod and two boys Matthew and Carter. The family keeps busy with hockey, soccer, swimming and camping. They have a lovable yellow Labrador Retriever named Henry who enjoys playing with the boys, running, swimming and eating children’s socks.

 

Dr. Nicole Nicholson, DVM

Nicole Nicholson joined us immediately after graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2010. We have benefited greatly from her up to date knowledge and experience. Nicole has always been passionate about animals and their health and welfare. When she is not busy being a veterinarian she enjoys running, reading and spending time with her husband Dan and their friends. The have two dogs named Ludo and Logan and we suspect her kind heart will be taking in another rescue sometime soon!


 

   Veterinary Technicians

 

Alyssa, RVT

Alyssa graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Sheridan College in 2016.  Alyssa was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario and has recently relocated to Listowel. Alyssa has worked in a variety of clinics ranging from Large Animal to Emergency medicine and has joined our Small Animal team as an RVT in 2020. Alyssa has a keen interest in Client Education, Fear Free Education and Critical Care. Alyssa is a proud mom to her human child Hudson and her furchildren, Otis, her Beagle, Australian shepherd cross and Leia, her three legged rescue cat. In her free time you'll find her fishing with her son, sport shooting and running her business, Pawdicures.

Brittany, RVT

Brittany graduated from Seneca College in 2013.  She loves caring for animals of all sizes.  After graduating she started working at the Ontario Veterinary College's large animal clinic.  She then started working at Heartland in January of 2015.  Brittany and her husband Josh live on a hobby farm with their dog Tucker, horse Roxie and their herd of Boer goats.  In her spare time she enjoys sewing, painting and working around the farm.

    

Chantelle, RVT

Chantelle graduated from UoGuelph Ridgetown College in 2017 and later joined the Heartland

team in 2018. She splits her time primarily as a large animal RVT and also part of the small animal team. She grew up on a farm near Owen Sound and that is when her love for animals (of all sizes) began! When given the oppourtunity she loves outdoor activities and sports, being involved

in her church community and spending time with her boyfriend, Nick, her family and friends.

 

Courtney, VT

Courtney graduated from the Animal Care program at Sheridan College in 2011 and recently graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College in 2015.  She joined the Heartland team in 2016 after volunteering in the Drayton location for a number of years.  Courtney grew up on a dairy farm just outside of Moorefield and has always had a love for large and small animals.  She is a loving mom to her fur baby, Marley, who she adopted from school.  In her free time, she enjoys figure skating, traveling and hanging out with her friends.

 

Crystal, RVT

Crystal graduated from Northern College-Haileybury Campus in May 2004. After graduating Crystal worked in a small animal practice in Elora until she joined the Heartland team in October 2016.

Crystal grew up on a dairy farm outside of Kenilworth and always knew she would work in veterinary medicine. With her years of experience in the dairy industry she was very excited when the opportunity came up to become a member of our large animal team. She now divides her time between farm visits and small animal at both our Listowel and Mount Forest location.  Crystal lives in Listowel with her husband Dave and their 2 girls Avery and Cassidy, and their son Wyatt and an Australian Cattle Dog named Wiser. When Crystal isn't at work she keeps busy taking her kids to

figure skating and spending as much time outside as the day will allow.

 

 

Laura, RVT

Laura has been with the Heartland team since 2010 when she worked as a student. Since then she has completed her Veterinary Office Administration Certificate in 2013 and her Veterinary Technology Diploma in 2016 both from University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus. She has always had a love for animals and knew from a young age that she wanted to make a career of it. Laura has a strong interest in Nutrition & Behaviour and is continually furthering her education in those areas. Laura is a proud mom to a beautiful little girl Ava and her Pug X Bayley. In her free time, you can find her spending time with friends & family, spending time by the lake or playing box lacrosse.

 

Lindsey, RVT

Lindsey graduated from St. Clair College in May 2008 and started working in Listowel immediately after graduating. Lindsey's positive attitude helps keep everyone smiling throughout the workday. Lindsey is a proud mother of 2 children and has two hound dogs; Sierra and Millie and a cat Lou. In 2016 Lindsey achieved her diploma in practical nursing. In her spare time Lindsey enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

 

Sam, RVT

Sam graduated from Georgian college and joined the heartland team in 2009. She is an RVT with a special interest in feline medicine and dentistry. She divides her time between our small animal practice and embryo transfer team at Heartland. Sam and her husband keep busy raising their
twin boys! She loves to bake, and enjoys spending time camping and canoeing with her family.

 

Samantha, RVT

Samantha graduated from Seneca College in the spring of 2006 and joined our Drayton location immediately after graduating and now works primarily at our Mount Forest location. She grew up in Harriston and has maintained an active involvement in her community through contributing to many community organizations and events. Sam is often on the go but makes time for her husband Jeremy, their two children and dog named Annie, and 2 cats Mickey and Mittens.

Sarah

Sarah joined the Heartland Team as a part-time student in 2013 after completing a high school co-op with us.  In 2017, she graduated from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus with a diploma in Agriculture, and returned to Heartland full-time.  Sarah spends her time at Heartland working alongside our veterinarians and technicians, on reception, or doing dairy herd data entry.  Sarah lives on a hobby farm outside of Listowel with her two boxers, Bentley and Nova, as well as horses and her growing herd of beef cattle.  In her spare time she enjoys playing with her dogs, riding horses or milking cows for her neighbour.

Tiffany, RVT

Tiffany graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at St.Clair College in 2019 and began working at Heartland in 2020. She grew up on a farm near Brussels with a variety of animals. She now lives in Fordwich with her boyfriend Bryce and their two dogs Phoebe and Turner. In her free time she enjoys walking the dogs, playing sports and spending time with family and friends.

Vanessa, RVT

Vanessa has been born and raised in Listowel. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Georgian College in the spring of 2014. She started working at Heartland right after graduation.  She has always loved animals, and working with them has always been a passion of hers.  She has two dogs of her own that keep her on her toes, named Georgia and Moose.  Outside of work Vanessa likes to stay active by playing baseball, going on walks with the dogs and spending time with family and friends.
